DRIVING TIPS
BE PREPARED BEFORE HEADING OUT
Road safety matters to everyone. Act in advance to enhance the safety of all road users by following these simple strategies.
1. Book your Maintenance-Check Up for every season. Don't wait for winter to have your battery, belts, hoses, radiator, oil, lights, brakes, tires, exhaust system, heater/defroster, wipers, and ignition system checked.
2. Equip your vehicle with a Survival Kit. Having these essential supplies will save you lots of time. Recommended items include: Ice scraper/snowbrush Shovel Sand or other traction aid Tow rope or chain Booster cables Road flares or warning lights Gas line antifreeze Flashlight and batteries First aid kit Fire extinguisher Small tool kit Extra clothing and footwear Blanket Non-perishable energy foods – e.g., chocolate or granola bars, juice, soup, bottled water Candle and a small tin can Matches
3. Check your windshield washer fluid, tire air pressure, and fuel tank. Make sure you have sufficient windshield washer fluid in the reservoir that is rated a minimum of -40°C temperature range. Ensure your vehicle is filled with at least half of a fuel tank. Remember to check tire air pressure frequently, as it decreases in cold weather. And, finally, wear comfortable clothing and footwear that won't restrict your movement while driving. Adjust your mirrors and seating, PLAN YOUR ROUTE, and away you go!
